Initial Vision

The Wirral Waters project was first launched through a series of public presentations beginning in September 2006, setting out the ‘Initial Vision’. This showed the scale of ambition and investment proposed by Peel centred upon the East Float and Bidston Dock estates.

The ideas and concepts for East Float illustrated new city skylines and tall buildings centred upon East Float as the setting for new residential, commercial, leisure and cultural neighbourhoods. The proposals also showed how the docks and waters edge could be brought back to life with new events and activities, including a new marina and the safeguarding of commercial shipping into West Float.

The ideas and concepts for Bidston Dock illustrated a new retail and leisure project connecting Bidston Moss to the wider locality.

The overwhelmingly positive support from the community, local politicians and Wirral Council following the ‘Initial Vision’ launch encouraged Peel Holdings to progress the Wirral Waters proposals further.

The approach agreed was working with Wirral MBC and other agencies through a Strategic Regeneration Framework approach, beginning with a comprehensive Baseline Study.
